Annual eye exams are a must for contact lens wearers.

Just because you can still see well with your contacts after a month isn’t a justification to wear them longer than recommended. It’s a terrible habit to get into as you are essentially starving your corneas for oxygen when you surpass the recommended wear time.

The technology in contact lenses has grown exponentially over the last decade. There are several different lens modalities and wear schedules based upon what best fits your lifestyle. After a short discussion and corneal evaluation with one of the doctors in our office, we will make a determination as to what best suits your needs albeit a daily disposable contact lens, a daily wear lens, or an extended wear lens.

Daily disposable lenses are our top pick for contact lens wearers.

They are the most hygienic and the best fit for patients with dry eye. While the investment is slightly higher than a monthly or extended wear lens, the cost is offset by not having to buy contact lens solution and the convenience of having a fresh lens every day. This is also a great lens choice for patients who only wear their lenses on an infrequent basis.

Monthly and extended wear contact lenses are changed as frequently as the name implies, monthly. While these lenses are great lenses, patients have a tendency to wear them longer than they should. Protein and lipid deposits form within the lens and essentially block oxygen from passing through to the cornea. You can use the best lens and enzymatic cleaners as you want but it will not remove all of the deposits. Those cleaners are used for removing surface deposits and for disinfection.

Prolonged wear time can lead to red, irritated and possibly infected corneas that can be sight threatening!

The doctors at Yaryan Eye Care Center use the highest technologically advanced lenses on the market. We strive to exceed our patient’s expectations and deliver a level of service and care which includes our contact lenses. You can help us with this mission by receiving a yearly eye exam and following our doctor’s recommended contact lens wear schedule. This will ensure the best eye health possible!
